Humberto Rodrigues
Burt Rodrigues has been the CEO of BiODX Biological Chemical Technologies (Pty) Ltd since 2002. He initiates and oversees the company’s research and product development and is responsible for establishing the company in the marketplace as a trusted supplier of Green, environmentally friendly decontaminant and preservative solutions. Rodrigues has spent over two decades in the chemicals industry in South Africa, starting as a lab technician with AECI after studies for a national diploma in Chemical Engineering at Wits Technikon. His experience has included extensive laboratory, research and development work, and also in chemicals production and marketing. Rodrigues furthered his production and business knowledge with certificate studies at the Universities of Stellenbosch and the Witwatersrand. He is passionate about the potential impact of environmentally friendly Green chemicals in Southern Africa and believes that there is a critical need for intensive use of such products in our agricultural sector, as well as in the water purification, health and industrial sectors. Under his leadership, BiODX has received strong support from the Department of Science and Technology, Department of Trade and Industry and the Industrial Development Corporation, as well as the eGoliBIO business incubator.

Michael Piper
Bringing a wealth of business experience to BiODX from his many years as CEO and founder of Independent Plumbing Supplies (Pty) Ltd., Mike Piper was born in Scotland and brought up in Durban. He attributes much of his success to the people he attracts to work with him. “You can buy stock,” he says, “but you can’t buy people. Many of his staff members have been with him, or still phone him, after 30 years. “I’m a hands-on, people person,” he says.

Piper studied accounting, married young (has four children now) and started work as buyer for John Willis at a princely salary of ₤7 10s. He became MD of Britten Boustred and, after a major life-change, bought Jack Holden plumbing merchants and started his own company. Boumat bought him out six years later and he became Chairman of Plumbware PWV Group for the company.

In 1998 Piper again started his own company, the present IPS, which has subsidiary and associate companies in Soweto and Port Alfred. IPS is among the top 5 of the country’s independent plumbing suppliers. He is a non-executive director and investment partner of BiODX, Of Burt Rodrigues he says, “the man is passionate about his Green products and my fondest dream is to see his company succeed.”
