Dr Lucia Steenkamp: PhD Biochemistry
Lucia obtained her PhD Biochemistry in 1991 from RAU and has been involved in Research and Development since then, with the focus particularly in the past 16 years on bioprocess and green chemistry. She is currently a Principal Researcher in The Enzyme Technologies Group in Biosciences CSIR. Some achievements in the field are several peer reviewed articles in international journals and a book chapter on the use of biocatalysis in bioprocesses. She has several patents on bioprocesses as well as Technology demonstrators and Technology Packages on the processes developed for industry
Craig Sheridan, Pr. Eng
Craig Sheridan is a professional chemical engineer and a lecturer in the School of Chemical and Metallurgical Engineering, University of the Witwatersrand, Johannesburg. He is a co-founder of the Industrial and Mining Water Research Unit (IMWaRU) which is currently being incorporated into the Centre for water in (and) the Environment at the University. Craig is currently the Honorary Secretary of the SA Institute of Chemical Engineers, and is an editor of the SA Journal of Chemical Engineering. Craig has three years of experience as an environmental consultant and has 6 years or research experience in the water treatment field, with specific emphasis on bioremediation of impacted water. His current research is strongly aimed towards treating AMD using passive systems such as Constructed Wetlands and slag leach beds.
Dr. Lorraine Thiel
Providing business process coaching, strategic direction and commercial input for BioDX, Dr. Thiel has a Ph.D in Organic Chemistry and a certificate in Financial Management from UCT. After a post-doctoral position in Process Development at F. Hoffman la Roche she became a product manager for Oncology products at Roche Products in South Africa. Joining AECI, she worked in the development of new biotechnology businesses for 9 years. She is an independent business consultant specializing in biotechnology strategy and business development.
Dr Mark Kelly: PhD Chemistry
Mark is a shareholder and has been actively involved in the chemical industry for over 20 years. He has a Ph. D. in Inorganic Chemistry from the University of Cape Town and a Diploma in Datametrics from UNISA. An experienced project manager, Mark worked at the CSIR as a researcher in the Green Buildings Programme and managed technical research projects in the inorganic building materials division for internal and external clients. He worked for Impala Platinum Refineries developing technology for platinum and rhodium extraction and purification processes. His role is to oversee and direct the research and technology aspects of the company.
